Olive Oil & Where Mcdonalds Comes In

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

If you want to talk about fast food establishments, as a whole, it's easy to imagine that McDonalds will come up in conversation. It's easy to see why, since this particular restaurant is often viewed as one of the most popular. It seems like just about every city in the United States has, at least, one McDonalds restaurant to go to. Of course, one may not think of olive oil, in tandem with this establishment. For details regarding what this is all about, read on.

The Olive Oil Times website detailed McDonald's latest addition to the menu, the artisan grilled chicken sandwich. Not only is this item cooked with zero artificial flavors or colors, according to the company in question, but a blend of canola and olive oil is used as well. These are striking details because they aren't ones that would be immediately associated with McDonalds. Regardless, it's an interesting topic of debate and those who have graduated from culinary school can say the same.

One has to ask the question: why did the McDonald's artisan grilled chicken sandwich come about to begin with? I think that it's important to note that McDonald's has received a number of consumer demands, as the article detailed. You have to keep in mind that many of the ingredients in this company's products are tough to recognize, which means that simplicity has been demanded. As a result, McDonald's created the sandwich covered earlier.

What about the heavier emphasis that people have placed on healthier food options? After all, there are quite a few companies which specialize in these products, Panera Bread and even Starbucks being some of the most common examples. They have become increasingly sensitive to the positive upswing of health, as it relates to the food that people eat. As a result, it wouldn't be unwise to consider that McDonald's has lost a chunk of its consumer base to those companies.

Does this necessarily mean that more people will immediately turn to McDonald's? In my view, damage has already been done, since so many people associate the company with cholesterol-laden food than anything else. With that said, I think that there is still a desire, by McDonald's consumers, for healthier options they can take advantage of. It's just a matter of how far the company goes to ensure that these options are available to the masses.
