The Beauty Of Traditional Australian Food Recipes

By Richard Powell

There are so many traditions that Australians stick to. Traditional Australian food recipes are one of these. Some chefs will specialize in something like fish and chips and calamari in salt and pepper batter, the Australian way. Other chefs will want to use their skills to produce homely kangaroo burgers and other emu steaks which are definitely different, but worth the experience.

Of course, the cuisine in the cities has come on in leaps and bounds. Tourists are attracted to places like Melbourne and Sydney where there is a lot of gourmet food. There is particularly a lot of Asian food because of the locals who reside here. One can expect that the food is good here.

If you have time, it is a good idea to get around the country and to go to as many places as you can because this is the way in which you can explore different food types. It is not good enough just to stay in Sydney and experiment with everything because with food comes the culture and the hospitality.

First of all, the hospitality is quite different. You may feel as though you are entering the home of someone. The decor will probably be rough and ready. Food is really traditional in these parts. You may expect a burger which can be made up of kangaroo. For animal activists this may be something that they are not going to be happy about. However, there are many kangaroos everywhere in the area. They are breeding all the time, and it is something that one has to at least have a bite of before leaving the bright red sand.

Some of these dishes are claimed to be owned by Australians. However, it is debatable because they have been around for a long time, and other chefs from a number of countries will query this. However, one may look at this in another way. For example, Australians claim that they have come up with the Roast leg of lamb. It is the way in which they have cooked this which makes it different.

When one wants to take a break from this, it is Weet-Bix which one never seem to grow tired of. It has been a firm favorite since the early 1930's. This is when it was invented. It gives you a lot of energy and it can be eaten in different ways with various types of fruit to introduce more vitamins into the day.

Pavlova was thought to be an Australian delight, popular all over the world. However, New Zealanders finally won the war, saying that there is more proof to say that Anna Pavlova was in their part of the world when she visit. Of course, the Australians will deny this and claim the pavlova to be theirs. The dessert is so easy to make and a true delight.

Macadamia nuts can be found in Byron Bay and are perfect for a roast or to put in some pastry delights. They are an expensive nut in other parts of the world. They are exported to other parts, so it may be a good idea to take advantage of these nuts during spring when they are abundant.
